A quick overnight trip from Ravenswood, Chicago to Chain o’ Lakes State Park in Fox Lake, Illinois.

This was a pretty simple and easy overnight trip. Not the best riding in the world – since we started in city limits a lot of the cycling was on somewhat busy streets. When we finally got to the trail we planned to ride in the suburbs, it was very windy and not great for riding on fully loaded bikes.

The campground at Chain o’ Lakes State Park was pretty crowded with RV campers and didn’t have much privacy. There were a ton of raccoons lurking around our campsite at night, waiting for someone to leave food unattended so they could snatch it up. I had to shoo them away from my tent several times in the middle of the night because I forgot about a bag of chips I had left in my handlebar bag.

Overall it’s not a tour I would revisit, but it was still fun to give a new route a shot.
